Charles Karel Buls became Mayor of Brussels in 1881 and remained in office until 1899. His statue reminds the casual passerby of his stature, in his intense look and remarkable countenance. He sits close to the Grand Place with a book in hand.
He was a world traveler and writer too. But amongst these tufts of information lie hidden his efforts to bring reform to Brussels.

Several of these changes have changed the contours of the city. Much more than they are recognised now. Such is the nature of passionate work. Results that live on, long after the effort is done.

Spotted at a coffee shop in a train station. Somewhere in #London . Some messages make you think. Others bring out a smile. Yet others get you to do both!

Perhaps it’s the ambience. Or perhaps it is the weather. Maybe the coffee. Or simply, the simple yet profound meaning in the message.

The National Gallery is impressive from many angles. If you love art, you can go there any number of times and still keep discovering something anew.
Occasionally if you look at the ceiling as you enter, this is what you will see.

“A throne is only a bench covered in Velvet” -So said Napoleon.

Sitting at this park bench and soaking in the expanse of London green made me feel like a king. Sans velvet.
Ah, the clarity that quiet moments bring are well worth a Kingdom strong.

There are two pretty fountains that are at the centre of Paris. One celebrating maritime navigation in the seas and another one, celebrating trade and navigation in the rivers.
Called ‘Fontaines de la concorde’ they are a work of both intricate art and history.
Oh yes, they are filled with tourists and snappy cameras. Yet, they are much fun. If you have an eye for such things.

The balustrade on the bridge over the River Sienne on Paris, has seen much river flow beneath it. So much so, that it barely warms up to the Sun making its appearance in the horizon.

The Sun isn’t making an appearance for the Sienne either. Some sort of a magical coincidence.

The average traveller in me revels at such coincidences as we pack our bags one more time today.

I was warned. Warned more than adequately that the Eiffel Tower can be a disappointing experience. For all of its fame and glory it can show up as a stacked up mass of steel that touches the sky.

And so I was prepared to see it as just that. When the expectation are so low, the experiences end up being much better.

The Eiffel Tower juts into the sky with a sudden flourish with the help of some solid legs. Ah legs! Legs with arches and whorls. Patters and lines. All of steel and stands solid, as the rest of the tower seems to be in such a hurry to rush to the sky.

The Ferris Wheel. The wheel that made its debut in 1893 brought alive by a gentleman names George Ferris never fails to get me to stop, stand and stare. And by the way, I don’t enjoy the ride in but. So standing and staring comes as an easy substitute too!
There is something about it beyond words. Something about the symmetry of movement of a string of disjointed yet connected pieces.

And when it is lit up like how it was in #Brussels, it causes you to just sit there and watch the dizzy array of lights do their dance. Just as the night buzzed in full life.
