The balustrade on the bridge over the River Sienne on Paris, has seen much river flow beneath it. So much so, that it barely warms up to the Sun making its appearance in the horizon.

The Sun isn’t making an appearance for the Sienne either. Some sort of a magical coincidence.

The average traveller in me revels at such coincidences as we pack our bags one more time today.

I was warned. Warned more than adequately that the Eiffel Tower can be a disappointing experience. For all of its fame and glory it can show up as a stacked up mass of steel that touches the sky.

And so I was prepared to see it as just that. When the expectation are so low, the experiences end up being much better.

The Eiffel Tower juts into the sky with a sudden flourish with the help of some solid legs. Ah legs! Legs with arches and whorls. Patters and lines. All of steel and stands solid, as the rest of the tower seems to be in such a hurry to rush to the sky.

The Ferris Wheel. The wheel that made its debut in 1893 brought alive by a gentleman names George Ferris never fails to get me to stop, stand and stare. And by the way, I don’t enjoy the ride in but. So standing and staring comes as an easy substitute too!
There is something about it beyond words. Something about the symmetry of movement of a string of disjointed yet connected pieces.

And when it is lit up like how it was in #Brussels, it causes you to just sit there and watch the dizzy array of lights do their dance. Just as the night buzzed in full life.

The tradition is this. The couple declare their love, lock it up in a sense by affixing a lock atop a bridge and throwing the keys into the river!
Whatever happens to their love is upto anybody’s guess. It sure does leave a heavy bridge that is full of locks. Locks of all shapes, sizes and even numbered combinations!
I first wrote about it here : https://www.kaviarasu.com/2015/04/locks-of-love/
Locks of love. Lots of them in romantic Paris!

Brussels at dawn. History and architecture wake up and say hello to the Sun.
The colours that populate the lens makes the eye squint. Three quarters in delight. And the balance at how little the lens can capture.

So I click a picture and switch off the equipment. Switching on the eyes and becoming present to the splendour of the morning.

What gives character to a city beyond its buildings is what happens on its pavements.
It is always a sight to SEE conversation. HEAR exchanges of glances and smell Coffee. OK, beer in this case.

Imagine a character rich pavement complemented by a colourful history as a backdrop.
Just jaw dropping awesome.
A cafe with the St.Michael and St.Gudula cathedral as a backdrop in the heart of #Brussels .

Whatay setting.

The city is called Bruges. It is a photographers delight. Soothes a wandering soul so used to random concrete edifices masquerading as architecture by telling a story that there after all is a different way to live life.
It has everything that makes it complete.Canals. Churches. Buildings that reeks history and a surfeit of trees and horse drawn carriages!
It is sometimes referred to as the Venice of the North. This is a must visit place.
To complement it all, in the evening as we were leaving the Sun emerged. Soaking the buildings up with a rich tapestry that is rare.

There are many parts of a culture that you become instantly present to when you notice how apart from your own they are.. One such is the culture of cycling that is so present in Amsterdam and other parts of the Europe. It’s obvious that a combination of different things that has come together to make it possible : a tradition. A mindset. Investments. Laws. Infrastructure. Etc et!

I haven’t been more taken as when I get to see babies clinging on to their seats, securely strapped and safely saddled. With love, care and a bit of a frenzy that their mom’s legs kick up as they pedal away.

Completely oblivious to this stranger standing in awe.
