Sunsets, Sunrises, and the Stories in Between

The incredible thing about sunsets? They bear an uncanny resemblance to sunrises.

One marks an ending, the other a beginning—but in truth, they are part of the same cycle. Every sunset quietly hands over the sky to the next sunrise, and life moves forward.

It’s the time when birds are close to home—some flying away, others flying toward. They don’t dwell on what was, only on where they’re headed next.

Both sunrises and sunsets captivate us. Maybe because they symbolize change—a closure of sorts and a fresh startwaiting in the wings.

The birds know the secret. They embrace the light, the dark, and everything in between. And most importantly, they fly.

Maybe it’s time we did too.

I stood there transfixed. I was told that the Sun would be rising shortly. It was a cold December morning. In the Himalayas. At Nagarkot, in the East of Kathmandu.
There was a motely crowd who had driven up in their cars to see the Sun rise, ‘If the clouds allow" as the friend had said.
The Sun was to rise beyond the Kathmandu valley and from behind the grand ranges of the HImalayas. But it wasnt in the direction of the Sun the people were looking. It wasnt without reason.
Suddenly, without music or a dramatic arrival sequence of a hero in a movie, the Sun announced its arrival. By torching the tip of ranges in the South. The snow in the ranges glimmered and the darkness everywhere else seemed rattled.
It was the most surreal and special sunrise I have ever seen. A good height catches the first rays. That’s why we describe real leaders as ‘tall’. Perhaps. .

Across the bridge, beyond the river and from behind the mountains, the Sun emerged. Announcing a new day and another opportunity to begin anew.
That is all that’s required. One more chance to give it a go.

The balustrade on the bridge over the River Sienne on Paris, has seen much river flow beneath it. So much so, that it barely warms up to the Sun making its appearance in the horizon.

The Sun isn’t making an appearance for the Sienne either. Some sort of a magical coincidence.

The average traveller in me revels at such coincidences as we pack our bags one more time today.

Brussels at dawn. History and architecture wake up and say hello to the Sun.
The colours that populate the lens makes the eye squint. Three quarters in delight. And the balance at how little the lens can capture.

So I click a picture and switch off the equipment. Switching on the eyes and becoming present to the splendour of the morning.
