The cathedral is huge. As I walk towards it, it seems to peep at me between concrete and glass in the elegant Brussels.
Suddenly I am upon it. It is a massive structure. Built in the 11th and 12th centuries. And later on embellished and rebuilt through the 15-16 centuries.
It stands tall, majestic and against the autumn air, with a bit of a brusque pride.
I walk on, climbing many stairs and two giant doors appear. I look on closely at the door and click a picture.
The picture that you see. A part of the doors of the cathedral. Just one part, zoomed in.

It is both ornate and simple. Intricate and elegant. I stare at it for a while. The massiveness of the structure is subsumed by the elegance of the door.

I learnt the lesson long ago. Large structures by themselves aren’t glorious structures. It is when you add many perfect structures that can be independently glorious, do you get a large glorious structure.
Perfection is not about size. Art, design and glory takes many year of work. Hard work. .

There it sat, on the banks of the River #Siene. A green box with what seemed like a weak padlock and an infirm lock.
Saying hello to the emerging morning and the nonchalant passerby.

And as stopped to click a picture, I wondered what’s inside. And if the lock was worth it. I wondered if it is my story. Or perhaps yours?

That evening a quote presented itself on my screen. “It’s a lot easier to be lost than found. It’s the reason we’re always searching and rarely discovered – so many locks and not enough keys.” #LocksofLove #locks #keys #travelblogging #travel #Paris #france #Europe #EU #me #notestomyself #metaphor #river #energy (at Paris, France)

Locks of Love.
The couple literally lock up (their love) and throw the key into the river.
It is an irony, isn’t it, to see locks standing in for love. But the redemption, if it were, is with the keys thrown into the river. Perhaps snared by it for safekeeping. In full flow.
After all what good is love if it cannot flow? And what good is flow if it cannot breach?
I wrote about it here : https://www.kaviarasu.com/2015/04/locks-of-love/

Some people stand tall. For generations. They move from being physical entities to entities in the mind. Perhaps standing for far more than what they stood for, when they were alive.
Definitely far more than what a mere statue can do. But a good statue is not a ‘mere’ statue 🙂 #charlesdegaulle #Paris #statue #art #artandculture ##France #Europe #EU #travel #travelblogger #travelblogging #memory (at Paris, France)

There is character to much of Europe and its people. The open spaces define it.

It invites you to come in, stretch the muscle and the mind. Indulge in conversation. Catch up with a book. Sit back cuddling a coffee. Or watch people do all of the above and more.

Suddenly from nowhere, you realise the space has given a flight to your dreams. The asynchronous flutter of wings of pigeons announce lift off.
Suddenly much around you seems different.

Some pictures stay at two places. On the hard drive of a machine is obvious. But it is in when it lives in the soft tissue of memory, it truly comes alive.
This is the River Siene in #Paris . As the lights were coming on, as if to say goodbye to the Sun.
In a truly joyful way. It after all was night! 🙂 #travel #Paris #River #Siene #evening #lights #metropolis #EU #Europe #France #memory #night #travelblogger

The Eurostar is a comfortable experience. It takes you from Paris to London in a jiffy
Passing some stunning scenery and of course crossing the English Channel.
The might of human engineering of course is lost in between the comfortable snooze that envelopes you and looking at all cultures that populate the coach.

The stairway to the apartment that we stayed in Paris #airbnb
Paris is full of style and technology seems to be an afterthought. Obviously. But style remains.
A numbered lock on the main door that leads to a passage way that you need another numbered entry or an electronic key. And then you get to this stairway that sums up many years of steps taken to keep it this way.

There are two pretty fountains that are at the centre of Paris. One celebrating maritime navigation in the seas and another one, celebrating trade and navigation in the rivers.
Called ‘Fontaines de la concorde’ they are a work of both intricate art and history.
Oh yes, they are filled with tourists and snappy cameras. Yet, they are much fun. If you have an eye for such things.
